Mindful Outdoor Experience

You might be wondering "What is a Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE)?" Very generally I've been referring to this as a nature meditation. It's actually a bit more than that. On an MOE we will learn a little about the place we are visiting, creating context. We often do a bit of movement to warm up the body, some yogic breathing to calm the mind, and some grounding. We also explore various mindfulness exercises to get more accustomed to the practice before we move onto a slow and mindful walk. We will really take our time, without a destination in mind. On our walk we may use all of our senses to explore a fuller connection with the natural "more than human world" around us and reconnect to our place within it. After a silent mindful walk we may find a sit spot. A place to "meditate" with senses open. As we settle into stillness is our sit spot any disruption our presence might have created will dissipate and we can be with whatever arrives. After some time we will come back together as a group for the opportunity to share thoughts, feelings, observations…

“Paying attention is a form of reciprocity with the living world, receiving the gifts with open eyes and open heart.” -Robin Wall Kimmerer

Upcoming MOE’s - Coming Soon

Don’t worry if you are new to mindfulness, our journey will begin with introductory mindfulness activities, presented in a easily accessible way. These practices help to cultivate a sense of peace and awareness, ushering in a deeper connection with yourself and the natural world around you.

Central Park - exploring the North Woods

Join me for a Mindful Outdoor Experience in Central Park. We will explore parts of the North Woods, one of my new favorite places in the city.

You will be gradually eased into slowing down and tuning into your senses. The time will fly and you won’t know where it went. By the end of our experience you may feel relaxed, grounded and perhaps quietly content, having spent time outdoors, with the animals, plants, water, rocks...

This experience is for you if you feel comfortable walking a mile or two at a super slow pace and can navigate steps. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move around and walk in.  Please bring some water and perhaps a snack.

Part of this experience is taking a break from our devices. It can be so nice to redirect your attention and be totally present in the moment.

Location: Meet at the park entrance at W.110th St. We will likely end near the 86th St. entrance.
